Quickie

I came in about a minute and change faster on the Indianapolis Marathon & Half Marathon 5k on Saturday!!!! The race course changed a tad and added a giant hill so I was a little concerned but I improved my time!! YAH!!!!

Weekly Weigh In & Workout

So this week I ran out the door without measurements however, I managed to gain a pound so it's a good thing I got my bum in gear and got to the gym today!!!

I wanted to start off easy but not be crazy so I;
- walked to the gym (5min)
- 1min run and 2 min walk on 2% incline (16 min)
- walked at brisk pace (4 min)
- walked back from the gym (5 min)
- strength/stretching (10 min)

I felt pretty good but my form was terrible and I felt like I hadn't been to the gym in ages. I am going to super stretch my Achilles and plantar fascia which have been my biggest enemies and what kept me out of the gym for the better part of three months.

So for the rest of the week I am going to try and do a little mix like today of cardio and stretching/strength just to get myself moving and next week I'll start focusing on building my mileage back up, etc..

Whoops!

So after a wonderfully peaceful and fun weekend with my sister and her family!!! I got into the office today looked at my calender and realized that October 17th is only 4 short weeks away! What's October 17th you ask? Well it's the Indianapolis Marathon and Half- Marathon 5k. This is my second year doing it and I am determined to improve my time from last year and maybe jog a bit of it?!

However, I only have 4 weeks to improve my fitness and train... how did that happen?! I haven't been consistently working out so this should be an adventure. So, look for updates as I work on balancing training with not over doing it.

Weekly Weigh In

No changes this week. I have been a slug and I admit it. Although, I didn't gain so that is good stuff. I also made my goal of not eating at Starbucks and taking my lunch most days. So while there wasn't any physical change I am making progress.

My goal for this week is to workout/make it to the gym three times and to continue with a limit of only trip to Starbucks and taking my lunch most days.

Weekly Weigh In

So each week I'll do a quick check in because well, I do it in my food journal so I might as well share with my loyal readers, right?

This week I remained at the same weight and lost .5 inch in two measurements (thighs and bust).

After a review of my food journal, I need to eat less during the day, stop with the Starbucks, and actually get in some serious gym time. So my focus for this week is to 1.) Starbucks only one day this week 2.) get in 7-10K steps this week (meaning I need to go to the gym).

Hi, my name is Erika and I love my toothbrush...

My biggest (and totally irrational) fear through the whole braces process is 1.) I will somehow ruin my teeth and 2.) my teeth will pop off when they take the braces off (hey, I admit it's irrational!).

My dentist, orthodontist, and the interwebs all repeat the importance of good oral care (brush after every meal and at wake up and bed time, flossing, using a waterpik, etc). So I have been very dedicated to brushing 4 - 5 times a day, flossing once, and using my waterpik whenever I am home and it's time to brush. I also use a prescription toothpaste before bed to help strengthen my teeth. All this said, the first time around (ages 14 - 18) I brushed twice a day and used Act and Listerine at each of those brushings... oh and I drank diet coke and ate twix bars but I digress....

As an adult who is a.) paranoid and b.) paying for it this time around (and any consequences) I am being really proactive. I bought a waterpik which I dunno how I lived without the first time and this weekend I invested in a Sonicare FlexCare with UV Sanitizer. Yeps, I bought a $160 toothbrush and I love it!!! My teeth feel dentist clean every time and my brackets are gleaming! I also feel like my teeth are slightly less sore perhaps because of the massaging action? I have been using the max clean setting every time and I like that it tells me how long I should be brushing each area of my mouth and it massages my gums too. I just can't say enough. Shane is going to use it too (hence the UV sanitizer). Yah!

Okay, so here is my new favorite tooth care accessory, can't wait to see what the ortho & dentist have to say about my ultra clean mouth -

Grinder

So I didn't gain or lose this week weight or inches but I kind of expected that. Hormones, a slightly less sore mouth (well for a minute) and no real workouts to speak of I am content with that.

I'm still grinding even with braces! My orthodontist examined my teeth and determined that I am not damaging my teeth so that's good and we are going to stick with our current plan of using the turbos to prevent damage. They adjusted a few "turned" teeth by adding tie wires instead of rubber donuts and re-engaged my wire so I'm of course sore again! But pain means progress and I am totally in love with mashed potatoes and sugar free pudding so it's all good. They said things are moving nicely and my teeth are super clean! yah!

Knitting is coming along. Still working on the wrap and should have it done this week. I am making guitar practice progress... now if only I could get into the gym!!!! :) Must get to the gym!!!
